Polyphemus doesn’t provide Odysseus and his men with food instead he ate all of it. Yes, like the previous examples he asks that who they are but he didn’t offer them something to eat. This deviating from what is expected in Homeric society. Odysseus states â€Å" Your filthy crimes came down on your own head, you shameless cannibal, daring to eat your guest in your own house.† (Book IX) Odysseus expected a gift and some sort of hospitality from Polyphemus. Exemplification Essay Example For Students

Exemplification Essay Golf is about 10% physical and about 90% mental. A golfer has an inventory of various moods while on the course, awareness of these moods and being able to control them is what can make or break a golf game. A very crucial point in golf is determining your club distances. Many golfers really dont know how far each club can be hit. In addition to knowing how far you must hit a club, a golfer must also be educated on how to play under different weather conditions. One area that can really make emotions take off is putting. Putting is a part of the game that takes the most concentration because there really is no single correct way to putt. Determining your club distances can be a bit tricky at times because many variables can come into play such as wind, altitude, temperature and excitement level. Winds depending on their speed can make the ball go long, short, to the left or to the right. Also the higher the altitude the further you will hit the ball. For example, a golfer teeing off on a par 3 (179yards) with a 10 mile per hour wind behind him may have to use a 7 iron instead of a 5 or a 6. This is because the wind could push or carry the ball an additional 10 to 15 yards farther. Weather conditions can come into play as well. The sun in particular can make the course conditions very dry and hard. When the landscape of a golf course is dry and hard the ball will have a tendency to bounce and role a significant distance farther than normal. In contrary, when the conditions are wet, like after it rains, the ball will stick or not go very far from were it landed. For example, a golfer may have played two rounds of golf on two different days, the first may have been a beautiful sunny day with dry conditions and the other may have been a day after a night of rain, in turn made the conditions of the golf course change dramatically. This dramatic change has altered the way this golfer must play. The first day was worry free because conditions were ideal, but playing the second day the golfers had to anticipate where their ball was going to land and maybe use a longer club because the air is saturated and more dense than usual. Another aspect of the game is knowing how far each club in bag can be hit. At average a 3 iron should be hit around 190 yards, 4 iron around 180 yards, 5 iron around 170, 6 iron around 160, 7 iron around 150, 8 iron around 140, 9 iron between 115 and 130, PW (pitching wedge) 110 and a SW (sand wedge) up to a 100 yards. The putter is in a class of its own, it cant be hit as far as any of the other clubs but it is the most important club in the bag. There is no style when it comes to putting; its getting it in the hole that counts. There are so many different kinds of putters available and so many different stories about how a proper putting stroke should be executed. The fact of the matter is about 80% of tournament players use a grip were the upper hand is on the grip with the index finger clear of the grip and with the lower hand on the grip allowing all the fingers to hold the grip. Ball positioning is very important the ball should be in the middle of the stance, the putter face should be square to the ball and the putter face should be at a ball to target line with your eyes directly over the ball. Knowledge on how to play under different weather conditions, knowing how far each club in your bag can be hit and the know how on putting are all very crucial in the game of golf. If a golfer is cultured in all three, he/she will be on the right track to becoming a better golfer. Even if the ball doesnt go straight! The History of Carbon Persuasive EssayIntroduction In all types of writing, such as, illustrative or exemplification essay, there is a major rule that requires you to have a strong introduction. The best way to do this is to defend your idea and direct your readers to what to expect in your script. Let them know what will be your exact point and what you are going to prove and also the characteristics  you will use to prove it. The introduction part should be like a roadmap that directs the rest part of the paper. A good opening of any paper should include an illustration that will make your readers focus, scrutinize and reflect on it. Body Paragraphs Each paragraph should have an illustration you have chosen to highlight the primary point. You can ensure that each paragraph could be  reinforcing your argumentative thesis  statement. You need to be focused on your points always. The body should include clear and strong ideas, detailed characteristics  and brief examples  of strong points and arguments as well as information to support the subject.   Remember, it is important to use information and arguments that will ensure that your view of the exemplification essay come out clear and is valid. To come up with a healthy argument and an influential piece of writing, consider your audience. Since you have already decided on your thesis  statement, conduct proper research that contains enough facts, illustrations, points, and arguments. Then classify them according to their influence and relation with your thesis. You can ensure that the begging of each paragraph could be  starting with the most stronger and influential point. Then continue stating the evidence and samples to prove your concepts. Sometimes you can give a story to prove a point rather than presenting facts on one of your paragraphs. Note that each paragraph could be  a vital part and it is advisable to use transitional sentences in the middle of your exemplification  project. Wrap It Up Last but not the least; you need to write another important part of exemplification essay  which is the conclusion. The conclusion part is where you will summarize the opening part, its thesis  as well as the body part. Its the part where you will add final touches and convince the readers to perceive your argument from your perspective. In other words, you will pinpoint your main arguments and restate your thesis  to prove it. At this part, keep out the facts and statistics. All the information stated in this part should be served in a philosophical and reflective method. It is the place where you will shape your work and create a conclusion. In addition to restating your thesis  and highlighting your strongest arguments, the conclusion part should establish the sense of completeness and closure of your entire work. It is highly recommended that you connect your first and last paragraph by restating some specific phrases and words. Simple and short sentences and grammar are preferred in this part of the paper.   Once you restate what you have proven in strong but simple sentences, it will only increase your readers feelings of completeness and closure of the matter.   You can use quotes or references for additional cogency. Note that you should not just summarize the essay, but for the very last time, you should strengthen your thesis. Conclusion With this type of argumentative essay, it is important to focus on the argumentative side and support all your opinion with detailed facts. It cannot be compared with a paper where you only need to state your thesis  opinions. The audiences are required to have another point of view regardless of the subject. You only need to describe it, point out a new feeling, throw some personal jabs and finally give an overall philosophy that will leave your audience thinking about the matter.

Southwest Airlines An Economic Perspective Essay Example For Students

Southwest Airlines An Economic Perspective Essay Southwest and Continental Airlines: A Managerial Economic PerspectiveIntroductionIn order for companies to maximize profits and productivity, it is important that they implement managerial economics on both a day-to-day and strategic basis. This paper will compare and contrast Southwest and Continental Airlines from a managerial economic perspective. The goal of the paper is to critically analyze both companies on their use of managerial economic practices. The Airline industry is a capitally intensive industry, and because of this companies within the Airline industry focus greatly upon cost, as well as revenue generation. If costs increase beyond control, profitability will soon decrease. Southwest were quick to learn that if they were going to run their company in a profitable manner they had to first establish their market, and then make every effort to keep costs low. In the early 1970s soon after their inception, Southwest established the ten-minute turn. This was the ability to unload and reload passengers, refill the plane with gasoline, and make all the necessary checks, all within a ten-minute window. They had to keep their planes in the air as much as possible, because of their low price, high frequency market niche. Part of the great strength theyve had, is that they have consistently followed a pattern of keeping costs low in every place they have gone. (Freiberg, 1996, p35)Continental also looked to keep costs low. In 1994 , Continental was renowned as a cost cutting airline. We were stuck in our mold of being a cost cutting airline, and if you werent talking about cutting costs, nobody at the top wanted to hear you (Bethune, 1998, p10) The problem Continental experienced were that they cut costs to such an extent that it became the culture of the company. When Gordon Bethune became CEO in 1994, he looked at cost from a different perspective. One of my key questions in any decision is not only what does it cost to do something, but what does it cost not to do something? Continental had to begin to look at costs from every angle, not just purely from a monetary cost perspective, but what decisions would benefit the company in the long-term, 1994 was the beginning of a company turnaround. Cost Effective Hiring; Determining Potential ProductivitySouthwest put a lot of time and effort into their hiring process. Southwest and outsiders considers them to be one of the best companies to work for in the Unite d States. For this reason Southwest implement procedures to ensure they receive the best possible skilled workers. This is not to say that Southwest only employ academic high flyers, but they have become a company known for operating outside the box. Potential employees have to have a sense of fun, and entrepreneurial attitude. Southwest has tailored the general principles of targeted selection to hire people with a special kind of spirit. (Freiburg, 1996, p67) It could be said that Southwest employ what other companies consider risky workers. Southwest look upon so called risky workers, as employees who have the ability and potential to take the company to the next level. Southwest allow their employees freedom and empowerment to make decisions that would otherwise be held for upper management, If employees have to side step the rules to make on the spot decisions, they are encouraged to use their own intelligence and impetus to benefit all involved. Southwest also implement an imp ortant screening process. They look towards attitude as well as technical skills. By hiring the right attitude, the company is able to foster the Southwest Spirit, the quality that makes employees go that extra mile if required (Freiburg, 1996, p69) By implementing their unique screening costs, Southwest are able to boast results of having one of the lowest turnover, and highest productivity rates in the industry, justifying their methods. .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f , .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f .postImageUrl , .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f , .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f:hover , .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f:visited , .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f:active { border:0!important; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f:active , .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ud0a99bd69c17c3b9ae4f78c89e54458f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Last Day of High School - The First Day of the Rest of My Life Essay We will write a custom essay on Southwest Airlines An Economic Perspective specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Southwest implement their methods of recruiting, to positively bias their applicant pool.
